When a roof has slipped slates on every slope, felt that has turned to dust and battens that crumble under a boot, another patch only buys a few months. A new roof stops the cycle. We strip the old covering right back, put right any tired timber work, lay new breathable membrane and new battens, then fit the new tiles or slates with a dry ridge system that will not wash out.
Much of Blackpool and the Fylde is bungalows, 1930s semis and Victorian terraces, and each needs its own approach. On a bungalow re-roof the whole job is often done in days. On a terrace we work with the scaffold out front and keep the party walls and the neighbour's roof watertight as we go, as we did on a full terrace re-roof in Morecambe.

Our method
How we build a new roof, step by step
- Full strip back. The old tiles or slates, battens and felt come off and are cleared from site.
- New timber work. Rafters and timbers are checked, and anything tired or rotten is repaired or replaced.
- New breathable membrane. A breathable roofing membrane goes on, so the roof sheds water and the loft can breathe.
- New battens. New treated battens are fixed at the right gauge for your new tiles or slates.
- New roofing system. The new tiles or slates go on course by course, with valleys and leadwork where the roof meets walls and chimneys.
- Dry ridge and finishing. The ridge and hips are fixed with a dry ridge system, the gutters are checked and the site is left clean.
